Vallanchira Abdul Majeed took oath as the new Chairperson of Manjeri Municipality. Returning Officer Malappuram DDE A.M. Rafeek administered the oath. In the Chairperson election held at the council meeting, 36 out of 53 members voted for Vallanchira Abdul Majeed from UDF. LDF Chairperson candidate Nisaraly got 16 votes. The only representative of BJP abstained from the vote. Vallanchira Abdul Majeed, who contested for the post of UDF Chairperson, was nominated by K.M. Hussain. V.P. Firoz supported him.

In the election for Vice Chairperson held in the afternoon, Adv. Beena Joseph was elected. Adv. Beena Joseph from UDF received 36 votes and Mrs. Fasla from LDF received 16 votes. V.P. Firoz proposed Adv. Beena Joseph as the Vice Chairperson candidate. K.M. Hussain supported it. Chairperson Vallanchira Abdul Majeed administered the oath to Adv. Beena Joseph.
